The first Laird Family Distillery dates back to 1717 and was located in Monmouth County, New Jersey behind the Colt’s Neck Inn. Not having some of the ingredients he was used to in Scotland, William would use his most readily available resource, apples, to produce Applejack in his new home. It is up to the photographer to press the joystick to select what they want in focus, which then turns the selected box yellow. With multiple people in the frame, the system will draw boxes over faces and bodies. The eye/body AF worked very well during a bridal portrait session. However, the Panasonic Help YouTube channel has great tutorials for tweaking the AF, and I have no doubt with those recommendations that the Lumix S1 could be used for some fast-action sporting events. The camera only shoots 6 FPS, so this is not a sports-oriented camera. So, there are limitations here for wedding and event photographers, but nothing deal-breaking. The Lumix S1 does have its own AF assist beam, but I needed the extra help in this situation. I turned on the matrix-like AF assist beam of my Profoto A1, and was then successful in locking focus. I was recently shooting the first dance in one of the most dimly-lit venues I’ve ever been to, with the couple backlit by very bright string lights. I’ve been able to track these types of shots even in dimly lit churches with no problem. I mostly use S-AF, which is very accurate, and hop into C-AF for things like couples walking down the aisle. I haven’t found it to be an issue with what I do as a wedding and portrait photographer. The contrast-based autofocus that Panasonic uses has been much maligned in Internet photography forums. ![]() I have no doubt it can be pushed higher and may be the new low light king as of this writing. The Work Sharp E3-again, the nearest competitor in our test-doesn’t have an equivalent mechanism. But it adds a feature that others lack: spring-loaded guides inside the slots that grip the blade at the correct angle and keep it from shifting around during the sharpening process. ![]() Like most electric sharpeners, the Trizor XV uses rigid, angled slots to help orient the blade. When sharpening by any method, it’s critical to hold the blade at a consistent angle: If you don’t, the result is a rounded-over, dulled edge, rather than a sharp one formed by the apex of two consistent bevels. One reason the Trizor XV produces consistently sharp knives is its design, which makes it virtually impossible to mess up the sharpening process. (If you’re running the numbers and coming up short, bear in mind that resetting the blade for each pull, and intermittently testing the edge, adds considerably to the total time elapsed.) And on badly dulled knives, we sometimes ran to 30 pulls on the Work Sharp E3, which took about 8 minutes. The total number of pulls sometimes topped out lower, at around 20, but because every pull took about 8 seconds, when going by the instructions, the total time was greater. By contrast, on the Work Sharp E3, it took at least 5 minutes to sharpen an 8-inch knife, and often longer. ![]() Following the instructions, we found that every “pull” of an 8-inch blade through the sharpener took between 5 seconds (on the coarse abrasive) to just 1 or 2 seconds (on the fine “stropping/polishing” abrasive), and the total number of pulls topped out at around 30. ![]() From start to finish, it took us a maximum of 4 minutes to bring an 8-inch knife from a sandpaper-dulled state to a like-new edge. ![]() ![]() ![]() I spent a week using the G305 as my main mouse, using it for typical computing tasks (like clicking around while procrastinating writing this post), to more intense tasks like playing a first-person shooter game, Overwatch, and doing some Photoshop retouching. The frequency dipped as I got used to the thumb placement, though. The programmable buttons on the side of the mouse led to a couple accidental clicks. The construction clearly isn’t meant for this mouse to bang around in your bag like other portable mice, so plan to leave this one on your desk most of the time. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but the shape of your hand could change that. That phenomenon surely varies with the shape of your hand, but it seems safe to assume misclicks will happen from time to time. Over the course of a week or so using the G305, I found myself accidentally hitting the thumb buttons from time time time, specifically when I took my hand off the mouse to type, then went back to holding it. Lefties can hit the buttons with their pinkies, but it’s slightly awkward. The mouse has a neutral shape, but there are two buttons on the left side that you can hit with your thumb when using your right hand. Personally, I consider these positive aspects. It’s also light at just 3.5 ounces, and there’s no way to adjust the weight like you can with other competition gaming inputs. There are no fancy contours or added grips. The plastic casing has a light texture that’s consistent across the surface. Pick up the G305, and it doesn’t feel much like a gaming mouse. And yes, the battery life is also incredible too.The straight-forward design of the G305 doesn’t give you fancy curves or mixed materials for grip, but it’s simple and comfortable. It's cheap enough that you can toss it in a backpack without worry, comfy enough for working with it all day and precise enough to keep using it for your DM session in the evening too. Whether or not you're interested in gaming mice to that level, it speaks to the quality of the base package here - the sensor, wireless transmitter and battery are all top quality.īeyond this though, the G305 is just a fun mouse to use even completely stock. Secondly, its low price and reliable internals have made this mouse a favourite of modders, with a litany of 3D-printed shell replacements, switch upgrades and more - just look at this subreddit, for instance. This makes it even better for fast flicks in FPS titles. I've written about the Logitech G305 before as it is one of my favourites, but let's quickly cover what makes this mouse special.įirst of all, its lightweight design can be made even lighter by swapping out one of your standard AA batteries (ideally rechargeable) with an AA to AAA adapter and an AAA Lithium Ion battery, dropping the weight by up to 15g and putting it squarely into the ultralight category. The Logitech G305 Lightspeed, a top-tier wireless gaming mouse that normally retails for £60, has dropped to £30 at Amazon UK this morning. ![]() ![]() ![]() She is a renowned actress who has garnered three Golden Globe nominations. NAI lets users opt-out of receiving ads based on OBA targeting. Indeed, Google has done precisely what Adam Thierer and I have called for: giving consumers more granular control over their own privacy preferences by developing better tools.įor roughly a decade, the OBA industry has operated under a self-regulatory scheme developed by the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI). The Ad Preference Manager sets a new "gold standard" for implementing the principles of Notice and Choice, which have formed the core of both OBA industry self-regulation and the various regulatory proposals made in recent years. Google's position as the leading search engine and third party ad-delivery network will no doubt cause paroxysms of privacy hysteria among those who consider targeted advertising inherently invasive, unfair or manipulative.īut those whose first priority is advancing consumer privacy, not advancing a political or regulatory agenda, should applaud Google for excluding sensitive categories and for putting the new Ad Preference Manager at the core of the company's new IBA program. Google is sure to be attacked for crossing a "line in the sand" drawn by some privacy advocates between contextual and behavioral advertising-even though Google's closest competitor, Yahoo!, already offers a similar program, and the concept in general is hardly new. Until now, (i) AdSense has delivered essentially "contextual" advertising by choosing which ad to display on a page based on an algorithmic analysis of keywords on that page and (ii) Google has tracked users' browsing only for analytics purposes-to limit the number of times a user sees a particular ad (to prevent overexposure) and to allow sequencing of ads in campaigns where one ad must follow another. This tailoring will be based on a profile of each user's interests created by tracking their browsing activity across sites that use AdSense-but not search queries or other user information. Google's new "Interest Based Advertising" (IBA) program represents the company's first foray into what is generally called "Online Behavioral Advertising" (OBA): In order to deliver more relevant advertising, Google will begin tailoring ads delivered through AdSense on the Google Content Network (GCN) and (but not ). ![]() ![]() ![]() What to look for if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19Ģ0-30% of patients hospitalized with a COVID-19 infection display cardiac issues, and arrhythmias have been associated with poor outcomes, Kotak says. These can be life-threatening and require a physician’s further evaluation and treatment.Īnother cardiac syndrome that often arises after COVID infection is called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), caused by an imbalance of the autonomic (or involuntary) nervous system. Medications and minimally invasive procedures such as ablation can further improve quality of life.ĬOVID-19 is also known to weaken heart function, precipitating abnormal rhythms from the lower parts of the heart known as premature ventricular contractions (PVC) and ventricular tachycardia (VT). Diagnosing and treating AFib with blood-thinners can prevent this risk of stroke. People with AFib are at higher risk of experiencing a stroke, Kotak says. The most common fast rhythm is called atrial fibrillation (AFib) and causes an irregular, chaotic rhythm in the upper part of the heart called the atrium. On the other hand, fast heart rhythms cause rapid heartbeat, palpitations, heart racing, fatigue, dizziness, and shortness of breath.Kotak says some patients do end up needing a pacemaker if their heart rate is too low. Such blockages may resolve on their own, though. Slow rhythms occur when the electricity flow in the heart is slowed or blocked altogether.Heart rhythm disorders or arrhythmias fall primarily into two subgroups: fast rhythms and slow rhythms. COVID-19 can cause these cells to generate abnormal electricity, as well as create short circuits that lead to irregular heart rhythms, also known as arrhythmias, says Kotak. Heart muscle cells can also create electricity independently of this cardiac conduction system in diseased states. The system works like your own natural pacemaker. Electricity starts from the top of the heart flowing to both the right ventricle that pumps blood to the lungs and the left ventricle pumping blood to the rest of the body. Your heart is a four-chambered muscular pump that runs on its own electrical system, known as the cardiac conduction system. Kotak, MD, a cardiac electrophysiologist at Loma Linda University International Heart Institute, outlines the "why," "how," and "now what" for abnormal heart rhythms associated with COVID-19 infection. Nearly two years since the COVID-19 pandemic settled in the United States, the medical community continues to analyze the impacts of COVID-19 on various bodily organs - notably the heart.Īs such investigations ensue, one fact is becoming increasingly clear: the virus does affect the heart and especially its electrical system, thus disrupting the rhythm of the heart. ![]() ![]() ![]() King Arthur Measure for Measure - The gluten free biscuit dough was wetter than the other flour blends.I did not measure the flour amount by weight, as each blend needed tweaking.
